Buying an electric mountain bike can be a great way to get into biking. But it is important to know a few things before you start.

Front wheel hub motors

Using a front wheel hub motor is a simple and inexpensive way to create a powerful drive system for your ebike. The advantage of this type of electric bike motor is that it is suitable for all types of drivetrains, and it's easy to maintain.

The rotor of a hub motor is a ring of permanent magnets. When the stator electromagnets cause the blades of the rotor to rotate, the ring generates torque. This torque is then used to provide pedaling assistance.

The rear wheel of an electric bicycle is heavier than the front wheel, because most of the weight is positioned near the back of the bike. This places a lot of strain on the rear wheel and spokes. It also makes it more difficult to fix flat tires.

If you ride on a variety of terrain, you should consider purchasing a front wheel hub motor. This type of motor will distribute your weight better and give you traction. This type of motor will not work well in steep terrain. However, this is a great choice for city riders who want a more stable riding experience.

Throttle mode or "power-on-demand" mode

Getting around town on your electric mountain bike might have its perks but it's not without its drawbacks. First and foremost, it's heavy on the pocketbook. Second, it doesn't come with a plethora of vendors to choose from and the nearest e-bike store is in Vegas. Third, the battery will only last a few days on a single charge. Finally, you'll find yourself tasked with the daunting task of racking up a mortgage to make ends meet. Fortunately, there are several solutions to this conundrum. Among the most attractive options are the Magicycle and the Phantom X2. As mentioned before, the former is best suited to the more seasoned rider while the latter is better suited for the first timer. If you aren't sure what to buy, the aforementioned Phantom X2 is a good bet for both power and control.

Frame size of bicycles

Getting the right frame size for an electric mountain bike will help you get a comfortable ride. These are heavy bikes and you'll need to be able to get on and off easily. You'll also need to make sure you're able to get around tight spots.

The best way to find the right frame size is to measure the length of the seat tube. This is the long tube that holds your seat post. It's usually about 21-23 inches long.

You'll need to have a friend or family member help you take the measurement. The seat tube may or may not have a label. If it doesn't, you'll need to measure from the center of the gear crank to the top of the seat tube.

If you don't have a friend or family member to help you, you can take a guess. If you're not sure what size to get, you can use a cell phone calculator. In general, a bike with a frame size of 56 cm or higher is recommended for a taller rider.

Maintenance of an ebike

Whether you have just purchased your first electric mountain bike or you have been riding it for years, it's important to know how to keep it in top shape. Getting into the habit of regular maintenance will help your electric bike last longer and make it safer to ride.

The drivetrain and the brakes need to be checked regularly. Dirty chains can wear down the cassette and chainring. It's also important to check the pressure of your tires. Underinflated tires will not roll as efficiently and can cause flats.

The motor and battery are also crucial components of an eBike. They should be serviced at least once every six months. If your eBike sees heavy use, you may need to have it professionally serviced once a year.

If you have a disc brake, you should also replace the brake pads. These are inexpensive parts, but they can easily wear out. If you have a hub-drive system, you need a special tool to clean the chain.
